I was using postnuke for years and its the thing I miss most about the cms. They have lots of other cool features but the multi-site capabilities were second to none.
We worked off a single core install and a parameters file with a directory for each site that was to work independently of the other. in that directory was an original config.php file that was used when a user came in on a particular domain. Based on the domain a user came in on depended on what config file the cms used. Tables could be shared so that user system could be shared amongst several sites of choice.
Modules and blocks all worked independant of each other and were not the same on other sites unless those settings were also shared.
The only difference from the normal installation and a multi-site enviroment was a multi-site config.php version was used in place of the normal config.php so that it redirected to the right config.php for the domain a user came in on.
All domains are parked or pointed to the core directory of the cms instalation so that the multi-site version config.php did its directing.
It may sound confusing but it was quite simple once you got the hang of it. There isn't alot talked about for the multi-site capabilities in postnuke but it is the best and most time saving feature out there.
Another great feature was implementation of short urls was really easy in postnuke.
I wish phpnuke or someone would come up with a multisite version or fork that supported multisite functionality I think it would be greatly appreciated amongst the phpnuke community.

Hello,
I am finishing a version of the phpnuke with the multiple option, I hope soon to be able to liberate it, at the moment I have it in phase of tests.
