Five Reasons Your Site Should Follow Web Standards

PHP-NukeRecently we told you about our successful effort to follow web standards. You may have been saying to yourself: "That sounds cool but what's the point of all that work? and why am I talking to myself?"

We can only answer the first question, the latter probably will require therapy.

Search Engines Like It- Standards make it easy for search engines to access and evaluate the information in your web pages.

Accessibility- Your web pages will be more accessible to people with disabilities and non-standard browsers.

Future Compatibility As new version of browsers are introduced their adherence to web standards will increase and your site will still look fine. If your site isn't compliant you risk having your site look unprofessional or worse.

Maintainability- Sites that adhere to web standards are easier for unfamiliar developers to maintain and improve.

Convertibility- Compliant do***ents can easily be converted to other formats, such as databases or Word do***ents. This allows for more versatile use of the information within do***ents on the web, and simplified migration to new systems - hardware as well as software - including devices such as TVs and PDAs.

You can get more details at The Web Standards Project.
